It was a pretty eventful week for some of your NWSL favorites abroad in the W-League. Here is this past week’s round up!
Adelaide FC 3 – 1 Perth Glory
Makenzy Doniak scored a hat trick as Adelaide FC defeated Perth Glory 3-1. Doniak started the scoring in just the 4th minute before doubling her tally in the 31st minute. Her last came in the second half with an excellent goal from outside the box. Alyssa Mautz and Danielle Colaprico also started for Adelaide, while Amanda Frisbie, Raquel Rodriguez and Rachel Hill started for Perth. Though she failed to get on the scoresheet for Perth this week, it was another strong performance for Rachel Hill as well as the remaining NWSL players.
Western Sydney Wanderers 0 – 1 Brisbane Roar
Carson Pickett scored the loan goal to give Brisbane a 1-0 win over Western Sydney. Pickett, not often landing on the scoresheet, scored a great goal from a free kick in the 30th minute. Besides Pickett’s goal, the game was somewhat uneventful, however Celeste Boureille also started for Brisbane, while Lo’eau Labonta started for Western Sydney
Canberra United 3 – 2 Sydney FC
Toni Pressley scored a rare goal in the 78th minute to draw Canberra level before former WNY Flash forward Michelle Heyman netted a game winner for Canberra a few minutes later. Canberra was lucky to escape with a win after giving up two goals on penalties. Haley Kopmeyer got the start in goal for Canberra.
Melbourne City 5 – 2 Newcastle Jets
It was a Seattle Reign scoring party as Larissa Crummer and Jessica Fishlock both scored a brace to help Melbourne City take a 5-2 win over Newcastle. While Melbourne City struck first in just the 5th minute, Katie Stengel came back and scored a brace of her own for the Jets, though it wasn’t enough for the victory. Lydia Williams, Alanna Kennedy, Lauren Barnes, Steph Catley and Ashley Hatch also started for Melbourne City and put in strong performances as well. Britt Eckerstrom, Tori Huster and Arin Gilliland also started for Newcastle.
