NWSL Abroad: 2015 Edition Part 2

While some were off on international duty, NWSL players abroad still saw plenty of action in their various leagues overseas.

W-League (Australia)

Canberra United 3-0 Sydney FC

Veronica Perez made her debut for Canberra in their 3-0 win over Sydney FC. Perez was particularly dangerous in the second half as she nearly scored three minutes in before ultimately netting Canberra’s second goal in the 58th minute. Perez played 90 minutes along with Ellie Brush and Kendall Fletcher. Despite losing their second straight match, Sydney’s Jasmyne Spencer had another strong match. Spencer again was the team’s biggest threat, but seems to be lacking support in her attacking efforts. Spencer also played a full 90 along with Michelle Betos. Canberra are off next week while Sydney takes on Western Sydney.

Perth Glory 0-0 Newcastle Jets

There was a trio of debuts in the scoreless draw between Perth and Newcastle. Nikki Stanton played 90 minutes for Perth and had an excellent match. Fresh off their rookie seasons in the NWSL, Megan Oyster and Caprice Dydasco played a full game in Newcastle’s first game of the season. Perth face Melbourne City next while Newcastle take on Melbourne Victory.

Melbourne City 2-1 Melbourne Victory

In a much closer match than their last, Melbourne City defeated Melbourne Victory 2-1. Due to international play, there were not any NWSL players who featured in this match. Melbourne City’s next match is against Perth, while Melbourne Victory take on Newcastle.

Western Sydney Wanderers 0-3 Brisbane Roar

Haley Kopmeyer earned a clean sheet, making several excellent saves in the process as Brisbane defeated Western Sydney to remain undefeated thus far. Kendall Johnson was much involved for Western Sydney, setting up Keelin Winters perfectly before Winters struck the ball wide of the net. Johnson had a solid shot of her own but was denied by the woodwork. Western Sydney face Sydney in their next match, while Brisbane play against Adelaide United.

Nadeshiko League (Japan)

Iga FC 0-1 Speranza FC

Mana Shim started and played a full 90 minutes for Iga FC in their 1-0 defeat to Speranza FC

AS Saitama 1-1 Yunogo Belle

Elizabeth Eddy was a halftime sub and scored the equalizer for Yunogo Bell in stoppage time as they drew 1-1 against AS Saitama. Abby Erceg made her debut for Saitama and played a full 90 minutes.

Cypriot League (Cyprus)

Apollon Limassol 2-2 Lefkothea

Ashley Nick scored for the second week as a row and was able to equalize for Apollon in the second half of the match
