France Steal 2-1 Victory Over England

Chester, PA, 1 March 2017 – In the first match of the 2017 SheBelieves Cup, late heroics boosted France to a 2-1 win over England. Jordan Nobbs opened the scoring for England in the first half, but the Lionesses couldn’t hang on. Marie Laure Delie and second-half substitute Wendie Renard scored for France to earn the come-from-behind victory and take the three points.

England dictated the pace of the match in the first half. Despite having the better of the chances, England couldn’t capitalize until the 32nd minute. Jordan Nobbs had ample time control Jill Scott’s cross from the right flank and fire off a shot from the top of the penalty arc. The French goalkeeper mishandled Nobbs’ shot and England took the lead.

France picked up steam with second half substitutions as England waned. The breakthrough finally came in the 80th minute for France when Marie Laure Delie flicked in Elodie Thomis’ cross from the right flank. France continued to press and earned a corner kick in stoppage time. Amel Majri drove the corner to the edge of the goal area and Wendie Renard headed it into the English net, stealing the victory.
